: Stir together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl; let stand at room temperature 30 minutes.

: Shape mixture into 3/4 inch (2 cm) balls. (Mixture will be moist.) Place on wax paper; cover with wax paper, and let stand 8 hours.

: Melt 4 cups (1 L) chocolate chips and shortening in a large saucepan. On the tines of a fork, immerse coconut balls into mixture, and allow excess to drip. Place on wax paper, and chill until firm. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.
